Arsenal's hopes of landing Julian Draxler could be increased in January, according to reports.

German international Draxler was linked to a move to the Emirates through the summer as the Parisians looked to make up the funds to secure Kylian Mbappe's signature.

With Mbappe signing on an initial loan deal, PSG now have time to raise the cash that will see them comply with Financial Fair Play.

Mundo Deportivo report that Draxler is among the names that will be free to leave in January if an appropriate offer is submitted.

Arsenal could return with a bid as they look to replace Alexis Sanchez, who will likely leave Arsenal at the end of the season.

Wenger bemoans "excessive force" of Luiz challenge

Arsene Wenger believes that David Luiz used "excessive force" in the tackle that saw him receive a straight red card in the closing moments of Arsenal's 0-0 draw at Chelsea.

The Blues centre-back was given his marching orders in the 87th minute of an intense clash at Stamford Bridge when he lunged at Gunners defender Sead Kolasinac.

"It was excessive force, yes," said Wenger. "I think even Luiz will accept he went on too so strong."

The fiery end came after an absorbing clash in west London in which the Gunners earned a deserved point.

Aaron Ramsey went closest for the visitors when he hit the post in the first half, as the Gunners ended a five-match losing streak at Stamford Bridge.

And Wenger said that he was pleased with the focus that his side showed.

"It was about mentality and a response from our last away game. We could have won it. It was an intense game," he continued.

Carragher: Arsenal better without Ozil and Sanchez

Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal's improved performance against Chelsea wad because Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil did NOT start the game.

Sanchez was benched for the trip to Stamford Bridge, while Ozil missed out on the fixture with a muscle injury.

Despite the absence of the star duo, Arsenal rallied to a goalless draw at the Premier League champions with one of their most impressive performances of the season.

Carragher insists that the improved showing came because of Sanchez and Ozil's absence.

“A proper, disciplined, away performance,” he said during his Sky Sports commentary at half-time.

“It’s about time. A big thing we mentioned is the midfield, talking about Ramsey and Xhaka, but a big difference is there is no Ozil and no Sanchez.

“Yes, maybe they’re better than these two going forward, but these two in Iwobi and Welbeck have been so disciplined."
