Arsene Wenger has revealed Alexis Sanchez is close to returning from the hamstring injury which has kept him out of action since November.

However, the Arsenal star will not return in time for Wednesday's clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

Sanchez hasn't played for the Gunners since sustaining the injury to his right hamstring during a Premier League clash with Norwich on 29 November.

But Wenger says the Chilean has a chance of returning at Stoke next weekend.

"For Sanchez I think the Liverpool game comes too soon," said Wenger.

"He has a chance to be available for Sunday against Stoke. He is going really well.

“He’s always keen to play but if you listen to Alexis, he’s always keen to play even when injured.

“We try to be cautious, but with a muscular injury you never know how big the risk is. He’s very, very close [to a return]."
