Arsene Wenger pointed an accusing finger at referee Michael Oliver after an explosive North London derby.

Arsenal boss Wenger was angry that the Northumberland official failed to show Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier a red card, having shown his own enforcer Francis Coquelin no mercy after his second bookable offence.

And the Frenchman called on the Premier League to force referees to attend post-match press conferences to explain their big decisions.

“It was right that Francis was shown a red card,” said Wenger. “We have no complaints, because we warned him at half-time that he was on a yellow card and had to be careful.

“But why wasn’t Dier also sent off?

"Referees should come in the press conference after the game as well. We are questioned and they should be questioned as well.”

Arsenal were leading through Aaron Ramsey’s first-half goal when Coquelin collected a second yellow card for a reckless lunge at Harry Kane in the 54th minute.

But the Gunners levelled 15 minutes from the end through Alexis Sanchez, and now both North London clubs must hope Premier League leaders Leicester, who beat Watford later in the day, slip up in the final nine games.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said: “Maybe it was a second yellow card for Eric, but I always think it is best to let the referee decide.”

Pochettino admitted a chance to make ground on Leicester had been squandered, saying: “It was a missed opportunity and we are frustrated. The way we played we deserved more but we are still a very young side and this was a good game for us to improve. At 11 v 10, we should have got the result we needed, but now we need to move forward.
