Arsene Wenger has warned closing the summer window earlier will not solve the transfer chaos.

Premier League clubs will vote next month on proposals to move Deadline Day to a date before the new domestic season kicks off, rather than it's current place at the end of August — several matches into the campaign.

It follows years of complaints from managers and chairmen that it is difficult to plan for the season with the market still open into August and players involved in big-money moves.

Arsenal boss Wenger says he would be in favour of the change, but claims it will not resolve the issue, as clubs overseas would still be able buy players from English sides — who would be unable to replace anyone who goes.

Wenger, in an interview with beIN Sports, said: “I believe usually people adapt to the rule and if the rule is clear and makes sense, people will adapt to it.

“Let’s not forget that people who are not happy will sometimes go abroad, to different countries and that will not stop. The transfer abroad will still take place if the other countries continue to be open until the August 31 so it might still have some problems that we face today.”
