Arsene Wenger says Arsenal were deserving of their draw at Everton after the Gunners recovered from a 2-0 deficit to claim a dramatic point.

A last-minute Olivier Giroud header rescued a share of the spoils at Goodison Park.

Aaron Ramsey gave Arsenal hope in the second half after Seamus Coleman and Steven Naismith ensured the Toffees went in two goals to the good at half-time.

Following the match, Wenger said the point had to be deemed as a good one given the strength of the opposition.

Wenger told Sky Sports: “I think it’s a strong point because overall it was a game of quality against a good team.

"After going 2-0 down just before half-time we had to expose ourselves to counter-attacks, so to come back to 2-2 I think is a good point.”

Wenger singled out his countryman Olivier Giroud for individual praise after he replaced the ineffective Alexis Sanchez at half-time to score Arsenal's equaliser.

“I thought we would dominate the game and we needed more of a physical presence through the middle. I think he had a very good second half.

“It’s great for our belief to know that away from home and 2-0 down we have players like that to turn the game,” said Wenger.

Despite his contentedness with a point, Wenger griped with the officials over Everton's second goal, which replays showed should have been ruled as offside.

“Maybe it was offside, but those are the kinds of decisions that can go against you.

“What is most important is that we showed the spirit to fight and come back,” smiled Wenger.
