Arsene Wenger insisted his Arsenal players have picked themselves up after their 10-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich.

The Gunners boss also praised his side for a "fantastic" first half performance at the Emirates and claimed Arsenal were "very good" in the second leg clash.

Arsenal, who were trailing 5-1 from the away leg of the last-16 tie, took the lead through Theo Walcott on Tuesday night.

But things quickly went downhill when Laurent Koscielny was shown a straight red card for a foul on Robert Lewandowski in the Gunners' area.

The Poland striker dispatched the subsequent penalty before goals from Arjen Robben, Douglas Costa and Arturo Vidal (two) killed off the tie.

Speaking to BT Sport, Wenger claimed the players and himself are now over the disappointment of the defeat.

"Yes, of course, [the players have been able to pick themselves up] I think it is always difficult to look at the bigger picture," said Wenger.

He added: "I believe that our performance was very good in midweek and of course when the result finishes like it finished we get what we got."

On Arsenal's first half performance against the German giants, Wenger said his team were "fantastic" and again bemoaned the red card.

He explained that losing the France centre-back made the job of turning the last-16 tie around "physically impossible".
