Arsene Wenger has revealed his team news ahead of Arsenal's trip to Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.

Per Mertesacker could return after missing Saturday's victory over Everton through illness, while Petr Cech will continue in goal as David Ospina continues his recovery from injury.

Mertesacker will be the only sidelined player to possibly come back into the team, with others who missed out at the weekend remaining absent.

Wenger told the Arsenal website: "There are no new problems from Saturday, Per Mertesacker is available again after illness.

"Nobody else is coming back. Arteta will not be fit. Ramsey, Wilshere, Welbeck and Rosicky of course are all out too.

"Ospina is still out too, so Cech will certainly play."

Meanwhile, Wednesday will give a start to 19-year-old goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith.

The youngster, who has represented England at U20 level and was in the most recent U21 squad, has started in Capital One Cup ties against Mansfield and Newcastle for the Owls this season.

He kept a clean sheet at St James' Park as Wednesday chalked up an unlikely win in the last round, having made 10 changes to their starting XI.

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal said: “We cannot take risks with anyone. For certain, Joe Wildsmith will play. Keiren Westwood is an amazing goalkeeper as everybody knows and Joe is a very, very talented young goalkeeper.

“I have complete confidence in Joe. When he has come into the team, he has done fantastic.

"He made his international debut for the England Under-20s recently and was then called into the Under-21s and that is a sign of the progress he has made.

“So Joe will play in this game against Arsenal. This is an important game and one we want to win.”

The Championship outfit are unbeaten in their last eight in all competitions, while the Gunners have won their last four.
