Jack Wilshere could emerge as a World Cup star for England after he has helped Arsenal secure a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League and win the FA Cup.

And manager Arsene Wenger revealed he has assured England manager Roy Hodgson that Wilshere will be ready for Brazil – where, Wenger believes, he will flourish.

“Jack started jogging last week,” said Wenger.

“I would think he could be back in two or three weeks. He could be back for the end of the season for us.

“I spoke to Roy Hodgson and I told him that Wilshere will be available for England. He will be polished. I think he will go.

“Roy didn’t say he would go, but maybe he didn’t want to show that to me.”

England have a tough group in the finals where they will play Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica. And Wenger is confident

“Yes, he can be the positive surprise,” he said. “England has a very difficult group and if you come out of a group like that, the belief is really strong.”

Wenger dismissed any suggestion that Wilshere’s career will be constantly interrupted by injuries and he explained how the player has used his time as a spectator to improve his game.

“I do not think he is injury prone, “ said the Arsenal boss.

“I hope he is ­stabilised now. Lionel Messi is the best player in the world and he has been in and out.

“It is the most difficult thing in the world to deal with and to be competitive.

“Jack has been in and out this year, but they have sorted out the problem now.

“He is a good watcher. He is the kind of guy, who, if you speak to him about anything, he has a natural understanding of football.

“He watches the game and he analyses very well what is going on. On that front, he has learned.”
