Arsene Wenger has warned Leicester “will struggle” in next season’s Champions League.

Arsenal boss Wenger says the newly-crowned Premier League champions will find it tough because of their tactical style and the demanding fixture list.

Wenger said: “Leicester will struggle. Their game is not based on possession and that demands huge physical resources.

“If you play at Barcelona on Wednesday night, you have to fight for every single ball and again on the Saturday in the Premier League then of course it will be difficult.

“I cannot predict what the future of Leicester is, but the only thing I can say is it’s much more difficult once you play in competitions like the Champions League.

“But what they have done, they have done. No-one can take it away from them. It’s an amazing story.

“Leicester only lost three games and to only lose three games is an absolutely remarkable achievement.”

Wenger also revealed that he met Leicester chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in France last summer - and even the mega-rich Thai businessman thought they would be fighting relegation this season rather than winning the title.

Wenger, in an interview with beIN Sports , said: “Leicester made a miracle. I remember I met the chairman of Leicester just after we started the championship,” said Wenger. “He thought he would fight not to go down and today he has a trophy in his hands.”

Wenger has also revealed his disappointment at Arsenal not winning the title and admitted that Mauricio Pochettino has turned Tottenham into genuine contenders for the future.

Pochettino has compared Wenger to being as influential as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo but the Arsenal laughed: “That’s honestly too big a compliment!”

“I just think in football, when you look at all the results of all the teams, of all the clubs, and I’m very, very proud of our consistency even if we did not win the championship this year.

“Pochettino has given his team a great dynamic, they play attractive football, he has given his team a style and given belief to Tottenham again.

“They can win the league again. That’s a remarkable achievement. He’s one of the promising, hard working managers in the Premier League.

“Tottenham had a very good season. But they were very close to us. That means the expectation is so high for us that it’s difficult to please people.

“We are disappointed from not having won the Premier League so anything else you can never say you will jump over the roof or something like that.

“But being professional is also to prepare the future of the team and to take care that the team plays at the top. It’s an achievement even if it’s not what we wanted.

“We are very disappointed because we felt for a long time that we could win the league but we also knew we had very difficult away games and they would be the real test for us.

“At the real important moment of the season we lost at (Manchester) United and at home to Swansea. That was the killer for us. What hurts most is not to be first.”
