Tim Cahill proved he's still a force to be reckoned with by extending his record as Australia's top goal scorer in their World Cup qualifying clash with Syria.

The 37-year-old notched his 49th for his country as he bagged an equaliser in the second-leg of play-offs at Sydney's Stadium Australia.

There is everything to play for with both sides battling it out for a fourth-placed finish with just one match remaining in CONCACAF qualifications.

The winner of this game will take on either Honduras or Panama.

The Socceroos, who drew 1-1 with Syria in the first-leg, went behind early when Omar Al Somah found the back of the net in just six minutes.

But former Millwall and Everton favourite Cahill hit back with an equaliser just seven minutes later to keep Australia's dreams alive.

Fans of the national team immediately took to Twitter to praise Cahill's efforts, with many calling on him to never retire from the sport.
