Cesc Fabregas broke the heart of every Arsenal supporter in the world when he signed for Chelsea from Barcelona back in 2014.

The Spaniard, who joined the Gunners in 2003, was a fans' favourite during his time in north London before leaving for his boyhood club in Catalonia.

His bond with Arsenal was so strong that in 2011 he even told Spanish magazine Don Balon: "If some day I leave Arsenal it will never be to sign for another English team. I'm very sure."

However just three years later he was back in the Premier League playing in blue after putting pen to paper with Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.

Fabregas has previously spoken out about the transfer, and has made it clear that he still has a soft spot for his former club.

But ahead of Arsenal's trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, has claimed that he didn't actually snub the Gunners as was first thought.

"Once I made the decision to leave Barcelona, Arsenal had the first option, and Barcelona had the obligation to contact Arsenal first," Fabregas told Sky Sports.

"Then they had a week to basically respond yes or no to the buy-out clause.

"I knew Chelsea were on the side, among other clubs, but after I spoke to [Jose] Mourinho in the meantime he convinced me that it was a great place to come.

"The week passed, Arsenal never responded, never contacted me either, so I took it as them having enough players in their squad, so I made my move to Chelsea."
