The Carabao Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Arsenal will involve the use of video assistant referees.

The London rivals will meet in the semi-finals of the competition next month.

Arsenal saw off West Ham on Tuesday night before a late Alvaro Morata strike ensured victory for Chelsea over Bournemouth.

The EFL have confirmed VAR will be used for the first time in the competition when Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge on January 10.

The second-leg at the Emirates, and the Wembley final on February 25, will also involve video assistant referees.

The encounter will not be the first time VAR will be used in English football.

That landmark goes to Crystal Palace and Brighton, who face off in the FA Cup third round just days earlier.

The FA had considered Liverpool vs Everton as the first competitive club match to use the technology but deemed the encounter too high-profile.
