Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has paid tribute to a young fan and challenged him to "make a change in this world."

The England international admitted he didn't play as well as he hoped in the 1-1 draw with Burnley at the weekend.

But Sturridge has taken in the bigger picture hoping to inspire youngsters watching the Reds growing up.

"Results may not go exactly how we want or I don't play as well as I want but I remember when I couldn't afford to pay for tickets to watch football matches as a kid," Sturridge said. "And hoping I'd get a picture or signature from a player and will never forget the ones that said no.

"So shout out to the little fella at the game who I gave my shirt to because you're the future and can make a change in this world."

The 28-year-old has scored once already this season after a string of injuries, but remains behind Roberto Firmino in the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.

Sturridge will hope to build a case to start moving forward with an opportunity in Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie at Leicester.
