Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho delivered a bizarre post-match interview after his side beat Benfica in the Champions League, initially refusing to give his view on their performance.

United won 2-0 thanks to a Mile Svilar own goal and a penalty from Daley Blind, with young goalkeeper Svilar also saving a first half penalty from Anthony Martial.

But Mourinho wasn't in a talkative mood at full-time.

When asked if he'd like to give a view on his side's display by BT Sport, he said: "No."

But after being pressed, the Portuguese added: "It is better for the specialists to comment on the game than for me to give my opinion.

"I'm paid to work and do my best, which I do every day, and the specialists are paid to comment on my work so let them."

Earlier in the night, United legend Paul Scholes had claimed that Mourinho's team aren't capable of playing attacking football .

"They're in a position where they've brought a manager in to ultimately win the league," said Scholes. "For four years the club hasn't really been in a position to determine how they win it.

"We'd all like to see brilliant attacking football - waves after waves of attack - but I don't think this team is capable of that.

"That's not the way this manager does it. He's first and foremost a defensive coach. He wants to setup in a way that will stop the other team playing and winning games. He's doing that."

Mourinho earlier had another dig at Manchester United fans ahead of the match.

He accused sections of United fans of not showing striker Romelu Lukaku enough support during Saturday's hard-fought 1-0 win over Tottenham.

The United boss detected a mood of discontent with Lukaku from the stands and hailed the £75million forward as "untouchable", claiming he should be immune from criticism.

But Mourinho has gone a step further with a fresh swipe at his own fans, in his programme notes in United Review for the game against Benfica.

In what amounts to a blatant jibe at sections of United's support, Mourinho wrote: "I hope that you enjoy the game more than some of you did against Tottenham."
