Under-fire Diego Costa could face more trouble with Jose Mourinho, after appearing to throw his bib at the Chelsea boss.

Costa was an unused substitute in the Blues dour 0-0 draw with Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday, having been dropped from the starting XI.

The Spanish striker, who has just four goals to his name this season, was sent to warm up by Mourinho during the second period.

Despite having one substitution remaining, Costa returned to the bench in the 91st minute, as the Blues bench decided to stick with what they'd got.

That prompted £32million Costa to part with his bib, throwing it over his own shoulder in the direction of his manager.

Despite the absences of Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao, Eden Hazard was used as Chelsea's furthest forward attacker in the goalless north London derby - rather than last season's top scorer.

"Diego is privileged because he was the last player [to go] on the bench," said Mourinho after the match.

"Everyone else has; The captain, Cesc. He is privileged I kept him in the team so long."

Former Atletico Madrid striker Costa was involved in a half-time bust up with Mourinho during the Blues’ Champions League win over Maccabi Tel-Aviv last week.

Mourinho played down the incident, suggesting he had had “kisses and cuddles” with the troubled marksman.

However, that didn't stop the Portuguese dropping Costa to the bench at White Hart Lane, with Mourinho beforehand suggesting that the player needed a breather.

He said: “It's the first time Diego is on the bench, unless he was on the bench for some little injury. But as an option I think it's the first time. I think it's also normal.

“He's playing every match and things are not going really well for his confidence. And Pedro is a good player, he's a dangerous player. We are going that way.”
