Diego Costa has admitted he is unhappy at the way he was forced out of Chelsea but insists he is in good shape.

Costa has posted regular pictures of himself partying in Brazil since going AWOL from Chelsea during his bitter stand-off.

But Costa, who is set to complete a £67m move to Atletico Madrid, claims that he is not overweight after landing in Spain.

Costa told the media at the airport: “I'm very happy to be back home. Everyone knew that I wanted to rejoin Atlético Madrid and I'm very grateful for the effort that [club CEO] Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has made.

"I'm in good shape physically. I'm not afraid about stepping back onto the scales; but I am afraid of [fitness coach Óscar] 'Profe' Ortega's training sessions.

"It's not the way I wanted to leave. I'm not a person who's going to smear the image."

Costa scored 59 goals in 120 appearances for Chelsea after joining them from Atletico for £32million in 2014, helping the Blues win two Premier League titles in the process.

However, things turned sour this year with the relationship between the striker and Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte damaged in January when Costa reportedly had his head turned by a big money offer from the Chinese Super League, which soon evaporated.

Relations between Costa and Chelsea deteriorated further over the summer with the player - having initially been granted granted an additional summer break after being told he could leave the club - ending up in exile in Brazil.
