Ray Wilkins has blasted Chelsea selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United as one of the worst decisions ever.

The former Blues player and coach, who also played for United, is baffled why the club allowed the Serbian midfielder to join a direct rival.

Matic, 29, has impressed this season after reuniting with ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at United for £40million.

Speaking on Sky Sports about selling Matic, Wilkins fumed: "It’s the worst I’ve ever seen, if I can say. I cannot see that for the life of me.

"You’ve got a guy here who was so paramount to Chelsea along with [N’Golo] Kante in the middle of the pitch, winning the championship with Chelsea the year before and all of a sudden you’ve sold him to one of the biggest rivals we have.

"I say 'we' because I am a Chelsea supporter so I’m speaking from the heart when I speak."

The Blues replaced Matic with Danny Drinkwater, reuniting him with N'Golo Kante, his central midfield partner when Leicester won the Premier League title in 2016.

The present champions also recruited midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco.
