Santi Cazorla faces a battle to save his Arsenal career.

The Spain star has not featured for the Gunners for nearly a year after two operations to cure an Achilles tendon injury.

Cazorla’s contract expires in June and he is unlikely to play again until well into the second half of the season — leaving him little time to convince club bosses over a new deal.

The midfielder, signed from Malaga for £10million in 2012, was a creative force for the Gunners before his injury but now faces an anxious time over his future at the Emirates.

He is back in training but will take time with his rehabilitation.

In his absence, manager Arsene Wenger will be looking to Jack Wilshere , who has looked close to his best again recently.

Wenger has been so impressed that a new four-year contract offer is in the pipeline for the 25-year-old.

And England manager Gareth Southgate is watching Wilshere’s progress with the chance of a place in the World Cup in Russia next summer.
