Ronald de Boer has accused Crystal Palace of making a “panic” move to sack his brother Frank after only 77 days in charge.

And the Dutch star contrasted the treatment to the time given to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Selhurst Park club failed to score in four Premier League matches and are now bottom of the table. Frank De Boer was also fired after 85 days at Inter Milan last season after replacing Roberto Mancini just before start of the season.

And Ronald, who played with Frank at Ajax, Barcelona and Rangers, told Voetbal International: “It's very sour when you think about the original appointment.

"Crystal Palace wanted to play football in a different way, play more of a possession game. That does not work from one day to the next at a club that has always played in a traditional English way. Last season too under Sam Allardyce.

“Frank needed time to sharpen the game that Crystal Palace wanted in the future. The club emphasised when he was appointed that he would get the time in that process. If you take Frank as a head coach, you know as a club that you are getting whole soccer philosophy at your club. That seemed to be exactly the intention.

"Unfortunately, the chairman made a panic move and Frank has suffered a new blow abroad.

“One thing is clear: today's football world is hard and ruthless. If you do not win, then you are out. But I also need to be realistic: Frank has not succeeded abroad.”

Frank De Boer won the Dutch title in his first four seasons at Ajax.

“Crystal Palace could have taken as an example of Manchester City, who appointed Pep Guardiola as a head coach last season,” Ronald continued.

“Of course, expectations were high, after Guardiola's previous successes at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. But Manchester City's club leadership also realised that even Pep could not win everything. And he was given time to get his philosophy across to the club and his players.

"Manchester City finished in Guardiola's first season in third place in the Premier League, 15 points behind champions Chelsea. In the Champions League they were knocked in the last 16 by Monaco. Manchester City's ambitions go far beyond that and the commercial and financial interests are immense.

"But Guardiola has given the opportunity to progress this season with an approach that proved to be successful.”

Guardiola won his first 10 matches in charge at Manchester City. Frank De Boer has immediately been linked with taking over the Netherlands side from Dick Advocaat.
