Jack Wilshere has always enjoyed a great relationship with the Arsenal fans despite a difficult career in north London.
After bursting onto the scene as a teenager with the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world, Wilshere saw his career blighted by injuries.
This culminated in him joining Bournemouth on a season-long loan, where it was hoped he could turn his fortunes around.
But it never happened for the Englishman, who suffered yet another serious injury, and was forced to return to Arsenal with his tail between his legs.
At the start of this campaign it was unclear just what the future would hold for Wilshere, but Arsene Wenger began utilising him in the Europa League.
He's still yet to start a game in the Premier League this season, but has featured in wins against Everton, Burnley and Huddersfield in recent weeks.
He was even on the scoresheet in Arsenal's 6-0 win over BATE Borisov in the Gunners' final Europa League group game on Thursday.
Arsenal fans are desperate for Wilshere to overcome his injury woes and finally fulfil the potential they know he has.
And many of them were delighted with what he said about the club before their Premier League clash with Southampton.
"I've always felt the love from the fans here since I was 16," said Wilshere.
"They've been brilliant with me... I've said before what this club means to me. This club would be nothing without the fanbase. The fans here are brilliant, the away fans are tremendous."
Many Gunners fans are now calling on Arsene Wenger to play him.
