Graham Poll hit out at referee Neil Swarbrick's decision to award Watford a penalty in their 2-1 win over Arsenal in the Premier League.

Richarlison went down in the Gunners box under a challenge from Hector Bellerin, and Swarbrick immediately pointed to the spot when Arsenal were 1-0 up.

Initially it looked as if the referee had made the right decision, but replays suggested the Brazilian had in fact gone down a little too easily.

Bellerin definitely made contact with Richarlison, but the Watford man looked as if he was waiting for the touch and was already on his way to ground.

Troy Deeney stepped up to take the subsequent spot-kick and buried his shot past Petr Cech to equalise for the Hornets.

The goal means that the Gunners have now conceded 11 penalties since the start of last season, which is four more than any other side in the division.

But former referee Poll was scathing on BT Sport as the ball hit the back of the net, criticising Richarlison for pulling the wool over Swarbrick's eyes.

The ex-Premier League match official said: "It's definitely not a penalty. Richarlison has made such a meal of it. For me it's a dive."

Steve McManaman added: "He got this one wrong, it's not his [Swarbrick] fault, Richarlison has given him no decision to make, he's gone flying from minimal contact."

Richarlison could now face retrospective action if the FA believe the Brazilian 'successfully deceived a match official'.

The panel who check contentious decisions each Monday look at incidents like this - where players have won a penalty or got a player sent off, for instance - closely.

And if they believe Richarlison has gained an unfair advantage by fooling the referee then they have the power to hit him with a two-match ban.
