Jose Mourinho admitted that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the difference as Manchester United beat Southampton in a dramatic EFL Cup final.

The Swede opened the scoring at Wembley and the Red Devils soon found themselves 2-0 up when Jesse Lingard doubled their advantage.

But two goals from Manolo Giabbiandini levelled the match, only for Ibrahimovic to head home an 87th minute winner.

“Honestly, Ibrahimovic won the game for us because he was outstanding," said Mourinho after the game.

"I can see a couple of performances - Pogba similar level - but he was outstanding.

"In a match where the opponent was better than us for long periods - they deserved to go to extra time - he made the difference and he gave us the cup."

Following the final whistle the Swede was his typical bombastic self as he admitted his success at Manchester United had not surprised him .

"This is what I predicted. I came here to show people what I would do and I’m doing it," he said.

“I keep going. I keep doing what I do every year.”

“I came to win and I want to keep going. The more I win the more satisfied I get.

“You push even more the older you get. At the beginning it is more fun but you don’t realise what it means. The more mature I get the more I understand that it’s all about winning.

“This is my 32nd trophy. I’m super happy. Wherever I go, I win.”
