Jose Mourinho insisted he did not want Bristol City's victory over his Manchester United side to be about luck.

However, he went on to refer to luck just SEVEN times in his post-match interview.

The Red Devils were stunned by Lee Johnson's side at Ashton Gate as Korey Smith struck an added time winner.

Joe Bryan had earlier fired Bristol City into the lead before a deflected free-kick from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It set the stage for Smith's winner, which sparked jubilant scenes on and off the pitch.

Mourinho was quick to praise the Championship side and admitted the cup upset was a good moment for football.

But in typical Jose fashion, he couldn't quite accept the defeat graciously.

"My thoughts? My thoughts are that they were lucky. But they fought a lot to be lucky," he said.

"They won the game in a moment where we had no possibilities to react.

"They win the game in the moment where everybody was waiting for our goal - so I have to say they were a bit lucky.

"Also in the first-half, we hit the post twice before they scored.

"They fought like this was the game of their lives, which it probably was and it is nice. I think it is a beautfiul day for football because a team from a lower division won and got into the semi-final.

"It is a big day for them and their supporters so I congratulate them.

"I don't want the fact I say they were a bit lucky to be the main thing. The main thing is that they won and fought hard for that."

Asked what went wrong for United, he added: "In the first half, we lacked the intensity they had - mentally and phsyically.

"For some of us, it was one more day in the office. For some of them, they didn't even want to come to the office. For Bristol, it was a big day for them.

"In the first half, we hit the post twice, Marcus Rashford hits the inside and it comes out. They were a bit lucky.

"In the second half, we were the best team after their goal. The players tried to win in 90 minutes. They were very, very lucky to have the goal in the last second.

"But I don't want the fact I used the word lucky to be the most important thing. The big thing is that a Championship side beat a Premier League team. We know how to win and we know how to lose so we say good luck to them.
