The records of Sir Alex Ferguson are a pipe dream for most football managers.

However, Jose Mourinho has set his sights on one mark he believes he can take from the legendary Manchester United boss.

Fergie claims 38 trophies in his 26 years in charge at Old Trafford, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cup and two Champions League victories.

Mourinho has won the Champions League twice as well, so can surpass his predecessor this season, but that's not the record he's chasing, reports Manchester Evening News.

He wants to have been in charge of the most Champions League matches as a manager.

Mourinho has lead teams in 133 games in Europe's top club competition, 61 less than Ferguson.

As United make a return to the Champions League this season so Mourinho has a chance to add to his tally.

"I know that I am in the top five or six but I'm quite far, especially from the top one [Sir Alex], but I will fight hard to go for that record," he told MUTV .

"Last season, I lost a season in the chase for this record but Manchester United is where Manchester United has to be and I'm really happy with that.

"The Champions League night is a unique experience for everyone. I have some players without that great experience, I think it will be fabulous for them and the fans to be back in the Champions League and to have the initial three matches to be played at Old Trafford, I think is fantastic."

United open their Champions League campaign next week with a home game against Basle at Old Trafford before ties against CSKA Moscow and a return to Benfica for Mourinho.
