Jurgen Klopp has explained why his Liverpool side always concede the first goal, and has revealed his plan to resolve the issue.

The Reds boss has seen his side go a goal behind in all of their last four fixtures in all competitions. Last time out they were beaten 2-0 by Leicester City, and before that they fell behind to both Burnley and Sevilla.

Against the Clarets, Liverpool pulled a goal back, but were unable to go on and win the game, while against Sevilla they turned the match around before throwing away their lead by conceding late on.

Back on September 9 Liverpool were also beaten by Man City. They went a goal behind in just 24 minutes before losing Sadio Mane to a red card and conceding four more.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, ahead of Liverpool's game with Leicester City in the Premier League, Klopp discussed his side's tendency to concede first, and attempted to provide a reason as to why this keeps happening.

"It's concentration but it's a little bit of readiness," explained the German. "In different moments we concede goals with the first goal.

"We now use formation better but we need to fight for second balls. We come too close together in the first formation for the first ball, which means we don't use the right formation for the second ball.

"That's what we have to work on. Each manager in football has another hole to fill.

"If you asked me if I wanted my team perfect defending set pieces but not able to play football, I'd choose the other one."

Liverpool started the new season in sensational style after drawing 3-3 with Watford at Vicarage Road. They recorded a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace before seeing off Hoffenheim in Champions League qualifying and then battering Arsenal 4-0.

Their recent dip in form has seen them drop to eighth in the Premier League, but Sadio Mane is still confident his side can lift the title come the end of the season.

"These kind of results can happen in any team, but we will do our best to change the situation," said Mane, referring to the Man City defeat.

"We will try to take it game by game, and why not win it at the end?"
