Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed he turned down a Premier League rival before moving to Anfield.

Klopp has been in position on Merseyside for two years now, having replaced Brendan Rodgers in 2015.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager had previously been linked with moves elsewhere in the Premier League, having been linked with both Manchester United and Chelsea previously.

Speaking at a question and answer session with Reds' supporters in South Africa on Thursday night, Klopp explained why he elected to join Liverpool - rather than elsewhere.

“Why Liverpool? I had an offer of another historical English club two years ago, but I never felt comfortable with how they understood football,” said Klopp.

“It didn’t feel right. When Liverpool called, I can’t explain it. It was right.”

Klopp also expressed his conviction that Liverpool can win the Premier League during his tenure.

The German had high hopes for the current campaign but has seen an inconsistent start - coupled with Manchester City's outstanding form - somewhat derail his side's title bid.

Nevertheless, he believes that with some tweaks and improvement, they aren't too far away. However, despite the side being close to making the Champions League knockout stages, Europe will be more difficult.

“We have to improve, 100 percent. But we will,” said Klopp. “We are fine and the owners are happy. Liverpool is a fantastic club, and my aim is to win the Premier League with it.

“There are two teams that are owned by a country in Europe, so it makes it difficult to win the Champions League. But in England, we can win the Premier League, but we need a bit of luck.”
