Liverpool fans have called for James Milner to start ahead of captain Jordan Henderson when the Reds play Spurs this weekend.

The 61-time capped England star has struggled for game time this season, seeing his left-back role filled by a resurgent Alberto Moreno.

Milner has only started three games in all competitions this season, coming off the bench in a further six.

However, Milner was picked to start against Maribor in the Champions League on Tuesday night, making up a three-man midfield alongside Gigi Wijnaldum and Emre Can.

And the 31-year-old impressed as Liverpool dismantled the Slovenian side 7-0 and set a new European record.

Inspired by his performance, the Liverpool Echo held a poll asking 'Who should start in midfield for Liverpool on Saturday?'.

The four options were: 'Both Henderson and Milner', 'Just Henderson', 'Just Milner', 'Neither'.

After 3000 votes the choice 'Just Milner' came up trumps on 48 per cent. 'Both Henderson and Milner' came in second on 36 per cent.
