Manchester City will mark Vincent Kompany’s 10-year stay at the club next season – but are still undecided on whether to award the Belgian a testimonial.

Kompany, who joined the Blues in a £6million deal from Hamburg in August 2008, admitted is hoping to stay with City in some capacity when he retires.

He has 18 months left on his current contract and revealed that he is yet to discover whether he will become the first City player since Paul Lake 20 years ago to be granted a testimonial.

City sources are looking at the best way to celebrate a career in Manchester which has seen the 31-year-old win two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup.

Kompany said: “I’ve got 18 months left and I’m in a completely stress free position.

“I’m on extremely good terms with the club, the fans, the manager, it’s not something I’m going to bring up until the last day of my contract either.

“My key thing now is let’s make sure those 18 months are the best they can be and after we will see in which capacity I can be involved.

“I will always be involved as a fan, as a player, as a manager, as a technical director, as a groundsman, it doesn’t matter.

“Whichever way the club sees me helping them out.”

Kompany is yet to decide whether he will quit international football after leading Belgium into the World Cup.

He added: “I have said it’s highly likely but I haven’t confirmed because I don’t want to make a decision too soon.

“And if we go out in the group stages I might just say, ‘I need another go at this!’”
