Jose Mourinho has been backed by Manchester United's fans after saying his "players deserve credit" for beating and keeping a clean sheet against a free scoring Spurs side.

Mourinho's men beat Spurs 1-0 at the weekend thanks to an 81st Anthony Martial winner.

Mauricio Pochettino's side responded to that defeat by thumping Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The north Londoners have been in terrific form of late, even beating Liverpool 4-1 the week before travelling to Old Trafford.

Despite coming under criticism for playing defensively against the Premier League top six, Mourinho was proud of his players for beating Tottenham 1-0 and believes his players should have received some recognition.

"Tottenham beat Liverpool 4-1, Real Madrid 3-1, but didn't score against us," said Mourinho. "My players deserve a little bit of credit."
