Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed the two toughest strikers he faced during his professional football career.

The retired defender was speaking ahead of his much anticipated return to the pitch for the EE Wembley Cup.

Ferdinand spent 12 seasons at Old Trafford and racked up 82 caps for England, facing some of the world's finest forwards.

And despite facing Cristiano Ronaldo twice in 2013, the Real Madrid star doesn't make the list.

Instead, Ferdinand opted for a different Real Madrid legend as well as a Barcelona hero.

"Ronaldo, the Brazilian one," said Ferdinand. "And Messi. Both brilliant players."

The Old Trafford hero also revealed the best two team-mates he's played with.

"Probably Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo," said Ferdinand. "Scholesy was just pure talent, Ronaldo was just a devastating finisher."

Ferdinand also opened up on his decision to become a pro boxer.

"It's been crazy, but the hard work starts now," said the former England centre-back. "I didn't anticipate it being as crazy as it's been, but obviously everyone is interested to see how it goes.

"Now I'll find out if I'm got the mentality, the physical capabilities? Have I got the mental strength to get through the gruelling process of trying to get a professional boxing licence."

Ferdinand also gave his thoughts on being involved in the EE Wembley Cup: "It came through my relationship with BT and with Spencer, I know a lot of the young YouTubers as well. I've got a keen interest in that.

"My kids are into that, so they keep me up on who's hot and who's not. Spencer has tapped into a emerging market and that's why they're at Wembley. I'll also get a chance to smash Robbie Savage, which is always nice!"
