Paul Pogba is out of Sunday's derby showdown after Manchester United chose not to appeal his red card at Arsenal.

Pogba will begin a three-match domestic ban, starting with the visit of Premier League leaders and United's local rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford.

United's club record £89million signing was sent off for a reckless challenge on Hector Bellerin and will now miss the City clash, as well as games against Bournemouth and West Ham.

Pogba sarcastically clapped referee Andre Marriner after the official showed him a straight red card, but the midfielder will not have his ban extended for that show of dissent.

United boss Jose Mourinho confirmed Pogba will start Tuesday's Champions League tie at home to CSKA Moscow, from which the Reds need just a point to be confirmed Group A winners.

“Pogba is happy to play tomorrow,” said Mourinho. “It's the next match, the match that matters and he plays.

“Of course he's a bit tired because it was a huge match at the weekend and he had just two days to recover for CSKA.

“But he's very happy to be playing and to try to keep his momentum. Since he's back from injury he's been phenomenal.”

But United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is out of tonight's game and is a doubt for the derby after suffering a setback in his comeback following cruciate knee ligament surgery.

Ibrahimovic has made four substitute appearances since returning from a seven-month injury lay-off but missed the 3-1 win at Arsenal on Saturday and will not play a part tonight.

Mourinho said: “Zlatan is not injured. He just needs some time of very hard work on the muscular area that supports the knee that had the problem.

“When the time for that hard work comes, the fatigue comes. To work really hard for certain period of time, he cannot play on these days.

“We decided to do that after the Watford game, and he's on a cycle of work divided between the gym and the pitch.

“He'll be out again for tomorrow, but I believe he'll be back to normal work after CSKA. All the other players that didn't play last match, they are all still out.”
