The Portuguese is likely to be asked about the Champions League draw - where United drew Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow - team news and the re-signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Mourinho's touching words on Rooney

Nice words from Jose.

Wayne Rooney hung up his England boots earlier this week.

Lovely to see he called his former boss.

Mourinho on Mayweather vs McGregor

Incase it has passed you by, it is Mayweather vs McGregor this weekend.

Here is Mourinho’s thoughts on the fight...

My dream was to start a boxing fight and handle it in a different way.

Both showing their qualities in a fight not just boxing.

It is silly from me.

It is too late, I have to sleep and the next morning I will look at it.

Mourinho on Rooney's retirement

“He told me the night before.

I am nobody to tell him agree, not agree, to do it or not do it, just listened to his reasons and I understand his reasons.

He does it for Everton, he does it for his family, so I have no complaints.

I just realise, like many other people, when he retires, you realise how many matches he played, how many goals he scored, what he represents for the football in this country and many congratulations for his career with the Three Lions.”

Mourinho on the Champions League draw

“I think it’s a dangerous group and, if you go to the recent history of United, United lost against Basel, United couldn’t beat Benfica in two matches.

I think also against CSKA Moscow the last time was 0-0 or 1-0 or something. I know there’s three places, I never played against Benfica in the Champions League but of course, I know the dimension and the quality.

I played a few times against CSKA, I play against Basel too, I know the places, the stadiums, the atmospheres, the style of play.”

Mourinho on Leicester

“I think they are the same team as they were two seasons ago.

Are they going to be champions again? Honestly, I don’t think so because there are many teams that I don’t think all of them are going to fail.

But I think in terms of their qualities, I think they are the same team and they are playing exactly the same way they played before.”

Mourinho on Martial

“I think when you have some talent, you cannot waste it.

I think when you’re blessed with some talent, you have to fulfil that talent, you have to explore that talent, you cannot be happy just with glimpses of talent.

I want more from him because he has all the qualities for that. But I think he understands me better too and the personal relation [between us] is good, so again Anthony, I hope he’s going to better this season than last season.”

Mourinho on Micky

“I think Henrikh understands me, and to be honest, I understand him because in the beginning of the season if he understands me better, he would have started better

But at the same time, if I understand him better, I would probably help him in a faster way than I did.

But, we spent our time together, working together, learning each other. The second part of last season was good for him and I believe with his talent that this season is going to be even better.”

Mourinho on Zlatan's return

Ibrahimovic re-signed for United yesterday.

But with his knee injury when will he be available to play?

I don’t want to think about it, I don’t even ask, speak about it or with the medical team about it, he will be an extra man for us in the second part of the season.

When I say second part I say normally we say January after Christmas, when the transfer window reopens in Jan so that’s normally but I have no idea at all.

I think the right way is not even to think or speak about it and just let him do his work step by step and comeback when he’s ready.

Luke Shaw and Ashley Young update

Shaw has not played since April and Young May.

But both are progressing well from their injuries.

“Young will come back earlier than Luke. We need our squad, we need everybody, but there is no rush with Rojo.

There is no limping. Just straight runs and repetitions. We have to respect the timings and they are bringing him to the team around December.”

Leicester team news

Captain Wes Morgan and striker Jamie Vardy could both be back in Leicester’s starting line-up against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Both players were left nursing injuries following the home win over Brighton but Morgan’s back complaint has eased and Vardy is fit again after a foot problem. Danny Drinkwater (thigh) and Papy Mendy (ankle) have resumed full training while Kelechi Iheanacho has also been able to train, although Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare will err on the side of caution with the striker after his toe injury. Provisional squad: Schmeichel, Jakupovic, Hamer, Simpson, Fuchs, Morgan, Chilwell, Maguire, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Ndidi, Amartey, Gray, Albrighton, Thomas, Mahrez, Musa, Vardy, Ulloa, Slimani, Okazaki, Iheanacho.

Manchester United in the Champions League

Jose Mourinho gloriously took United back into the Champions League by the back door route, ie by winning the Europa League.

And all the Portuguese manager’s eggs came in to roost as he was given a relatively simple group.

United will be travelling to Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow this autumn.

Ed Woodward turns attention to contract negotiations with nine Man United players' deals expiring next summer

Fresh from negotiating the return of Zlatan Ibrahimoivc, Manchester United’s executive vice chairman Ed Woodward now turns his attention to renegotiating contracts with a significant number of current players, report the Manchester Evening News.

Nine of them have entered the last year of their contract and the scenario is markedly different to three seasons ago when United mulled over the futures of Paddy McNair, Tyler Blackett, Andreas Pereira and Tom Thorpe. Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Daley Blind’s deals technically expire next year.

‘Technically’ because one of the savviest things Woodward has introduced since he became executive vice-chairman four years ago is the option of an additional year clause in contracts. It safeguards the club’s investment and enhances their power in an era where the players usually force through moves.

Woodward implemented the extension option upon Herrera’s arrival three years ago. Every recruit since, with the anomalous exception of Marcos Rojo, has signed a contract with the option of an additional year, which is partly why United did not panic amid interest from Barcelona in Herrera earlier this summer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 'takes £225,000-a-week pay cut' to rejoin Manchester United

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has taken a pay cut of over £200,000-a-week to re-join Manchester United, it has been claimed.

The Swede has returned to Old Trafford after netting 28 goals for the Red Devils in his initial spell last season.

His season was cut short by a knee ligament injury, and he will not return to action until the latter stages of this year at the earliest.

But he has put pen to paper on fresh terms with United, and they are significantly reduced from the wages he was earning in 2016-17.

According to The Times, Zlatan’s new contract will pocket him £125,000-a-week, a figure dwarfed by the circa £350,000-a-week he earned last season.

Romelu Lukaku says former Arsenal star Thierry Henry "is the best thing that has happened to me"

Romelu Lukaku has claimed getting coached by Thierry Henry is the best thing that has happened to him.

Manchester United hit man Lukaku has netted four goals in his three competitive appearances for the club since joining from Everton this summer.

And the Belgian striker has put his goal scoring form down to international coach Henry, along with superstar mentors Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres.

Lukaku told NBC Sport: “Henry is the best thing that has happened to me because since I came to England aged 18 I have had the best mentors.

“I have had possibly the five best strikers of the last ten years as mentors.

“I had Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and now, Thierry Henry. That’s not bad, is it?

“It is the best thing that could happen in my career because I am a young guy.

“Thierry for me is the best. Every day whether it is positive and negative I take it in my stride because I know what is expected from the top level.

“Working with him in Belgium I really take my time with him asking questions, I don’t take him for granted, I sometime ask him questions for two hours.

“I will get the information that I need and take it on board.”
