Jose Mourinho will be hoping his side can continue their storming start to the season when they entertain Everton on Sunday.

Manchester United sit top of the table after three wins and a draw from their opening four Premier League games.

The Red Devils conceded their first goals of the campaign in last weekend's stalemate at Stoke, and will be looking to get back to winning ways when they take on the Toffees at Old Trafford.

United will be buoyed by the midweek Champions League victory over Basel, but that came at a cost as Paul Pogba picked up a hamstring injury.

Pogba is definitely out of Sunday's clash, with Wayne Rooney preparing to return to his former club for the first time since his summer switch to Goodison.

Jose: We can't underestimate Everton

Mourinho has warned his troops not to take the Toffees lightly.

Everton have endured a difficult start to the season and were thumped by Atlalanta on Thursday night.

But Mourinho said: “Everton have lots of good players, they’re a good team and it will be a very difficult match for us.”

Shaw available again

United are boosted by the return of Luke Shaw following a spell on the sidelines.

“He is not injured anymore. He has recovered.” said Mourinho.

However, Marcos Rojo “still needs, probably, a couple of months.”

Lukaku is more than just a goalscorer

Romelu Lukaku, who went the other way to Rooney in the summer in a £75million deal, faces former club Everton for the first time since his switch.
Lukaku has six goals in as many games for United, but Mourinho said the 24-year-old offered more to the team than just finding the back of the net.

Of course, especially for a striker, it’s important how many goals you score,” said Mourinho. “But I don’t put any pressure on a player over that.

He’s playing well, there’s a good relation with the way our striker and the way the team plays, and I’m happy with that relation between the striker and the team.

I think Romelu comes in the right moment, at a good age, with a good number of years of experience in different clubs in the Premier League.

He’s clearly a player already adapted to the Premier League, with good friends already in this dressing room, with an easy interaction into our group. He came at the right moment in his career.”

Mourinho delivers Pogba update

Mourinho confirmed £89million midfielder Paul Pogba, who limped off early on in United’s 3-0 Champions League win over Bael in midweek, will miss the Everton game but offered no update on his timescale for recovery.
“I don’t know,” said Mourinho. “I just know that it’s a muscular injury, he’s out for the weekend match and that’s the only match I’m thinking about.
“I don’t think any further than that. He’s not playing this weekend. I just know it’s a hamstring problem.
“There are good players more than ready to play so honestly we miss Pogba, we need Pogba, but we have good players - Herrera, Fellaini and Carrick are waiting for a real chance to start the matches.
“We lost important players last season during crucial moments of the season and we weren’t crying or getting excuses in about that.
“Squads are there to try to cope with these kind of situations. I don’t know how many, but we’re going to play without Pogba for a few matches but we have other players.”

Jose: I think Wayne will get the welcome he deserves

Mourinho has called on Manchester United fans to laud Wayne Rooney this weekend - but not during their Premier League clash with Everton.
Rooney returns to United on Sunday for the first time since his summer switch to boyhood club Everton, after 13 glittering years at Old Trafford.
Mourinho called Rooney a United “legend” and said he wants fans to show their appreciation of what the forward did for the club - but only before and after the game.

I think that he will get the welcome he deserves,” said Mourinho. “I think sometimes the word ‘legend’ in this country comes too easily. That’s not the situation in his case - he’s a real legend, with the number of goals he scored and trophies he won.

He’s clearly one of the most important players in Manchester United’s history and I think the stadium will show him that respect he deserves. I hope [that happens] before the match and after the match, not during the match.

He’s a Everton player now and I’m not going to speak about Wayne more than I already have. He’s a legend of this club, he deserves to be welcomed that way but during the match he’s an Everton player that wants to win the match.”

Jose's in the house!

The wait is over.

Mourinho is here - and first on the agenda is Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United legend returns to Old Trafford for the first time on Sunday since his summer switch to Goodison.

Carrick reveals what it's like playing for United

Michael Carrick has given an insight into the pressures of playing for Manchester United , claiming “it takes over your whole life”.

The United captain is in his 12th season at Old Trafford and knows better than anyone at the club the demands placed on players 24/7.

But the midfielder, who has yet to figure in this campaign, insists he still loves playing for United and does not want his Old Trafford career to end.

To be lucky enough to play for a club like this... when you were little, it’s something you couldn’t have even dreamed of,” said Carrick.

On the other side of it, it’s your whole life, it literally takes over your whole life.

I think people can underestimate how much it does take over your life and as professionals, we literally give everything for football.

When you go out, people want a piece of you because you play for this great club, so there are two sides to it.

But it’s all I ever wanted to do, and still is. I’m 36, but I don’t want it to end because it’s so special.”

Jose throws down the gauntlet

Jose Mourinho insists Paul Pogba’s injury will give a chance for another player to stake a claim.

The likes of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini are waiting in the wings ahead of Sunday’s clash with Everton.

“He is injured and cannot play on Sunday,” Mourinho told MUTV.

“It is an opportunity for others and they are ready.”

Why Jose Mourinho is furious with Paul Pogba

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is furious with Paul Pogba for ignoring club advice, after injuring his hamstring.

The France midfielder pulled up early on during the 3–0 win over Basel on Tuesday night.

Now, the £89million star is set to miss a month of action with the issue, potentially missing key matches in both the league and Champions League.

According multiple reports, Mourinho is blaming the player himself for ignoring medical advice over what is a long-standing issue.

Pogba, 24, made 51 appearances last term, following his return to Manchester.

But he missed a three week spell in March with a hamstring issue and was given instructions by United’s medical staff on how to strengthen the muscle to prevent potential flare-ups.

However, Pogba has instead been seeing and receiving treatment from a personal trainer - which club staff reckon has made the midfielder MORE vulnerable to injury.

How Ander Herrera upset Jose Mourinho

Ander Herrera could benefit from the hamstring to Paul Pogba after being relegated to the bench at Manchester United this season.

Last year’s player of the season has been largely a spectator this season after the arrival of Nemanja Matic and the vastly improved form of Paul Pogba.

But reports suggest his competition for a place in the Red Devils’ midfield isn’t just about personnel, as Jose Mourinho has claimed.

The Daily Mail claims an run-in with Mourinho at training last season have influenced selections.

Spain star Herrera is said to have brought a friend to United’s AON Training Complex at Carrington, who had connections with Celta Vigo, before the club played each other in the Europa League semi-finals.

The paper says Mourinho knew the man and had a stern word with Herrera in his office.

And an insider tells the paper that the dynamic between the one-time favourite of Mourinho is now “not the same”.

Unbelievable reason Mourinho moved Inter training sessions from morning to night

Jose Mourinho moved Inter Milan training sessions from mornings to evenings on Mondays, due to the drinking habits of Maicon, a former Inter player has claimed.

Manchester United manager Mourinho spent two years in charge of the Nerazzuri, between 2008 and 2010.

In his second campaign, Mourinho’s side became the first Italian team in history to win the treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League.

And Ianis Zicu, a Romanian forward who spent six years at the club but never made a first-team appearance, has claimed one of Mourinho’s biggest battles was with ex-Brazil full-back Maicon.

At the time, the Brazilian was one of the world’s premier right-backs. But according to Zicu, Mourinho and the Inter squad had to completely change their training regime to keep him on board, in their quest to become European kings.

At Inter, Mourinho had a player who was often drunk on Mondays... Maicon,” he told Digi Sport, as reported by Football Italia. “Mourinho once called the lads together and asked them, ‘how can we get Maicon in position?’

After that, he decided to move the session to the evening. And that’s how it went.

They didn’t train in the morning, but they did in the evening so that Maicon could recover for training.

These situations can happen in a team, and that team must make a decision.”

Former United star reveals the two players Mourinho should sign

Jose Mourinho has been told to sign Raphael Varane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a bid to make Manchester United even stronger.

The Red Devils added Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku to his squad over the summer, but Mourinho was keen to bring in a fourth player before the transfer window closed.

And former United striker Saha believes Real Madrid’s Varane and Borussia Dortmund hitman Aubameyang.

Saha said: “I would go for Raphael Varane. Varane is a great defender and I think he would bring something special to the defence.

“And Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, he’s very quick and he’s got the eye for the ball all the time. He’s really impressed me in the last few years.”
