The Beverly Wilshere, on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, is one of the most iconic and upscale hotels in the world, made famous in the 1992 film Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.

Manchester United staff are staying at the hotel, while Jose Mourinho and his players are residing in the nearby Montage Hotel.

But it seems even the world's richest and most famous club has its limits, with club personnel staying at the Beverly Wilshere told not to drink in the hotel's exclusive Boulevard Bar, where a lemonade costs an eye-watering $12 and a beer starts at a whopping $18.

Despite standing down as United boss four years ago, Sir Alex Ferguson often makes an appearance on the club's pre-season tours, in his ongoing role as a club ambassador.

Antonio Valencia's straight red card for a dangerous challenge from behind overshadowed United's 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake on Monday.

The match referee gave Jose Mourinho the option to substitute Valencia, rather than have him dismissed, but the United boss rebuffed the offer, which resulted in the red card.

It has since emerged Real Salt Lake boss Mike Petke subsequently offered to let Mourinho put an extra player on the pitch, to even up the numbers, but the United boss turned down the chance, believing it was a good test for his side to play with 10 men.
