Newcastle fans weren't expecting to see their team referred to as "scum" when watching the highlights of their 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Match of the Day 2.

But that's exactly that happened - accidentally of course - when they switched on BBC iPlayer and settled down to watch Joselu's goal at St James' Park.

During the highlights commentator Guy Mowbray heaped praise on Daniel Sturridge's goalscoring record in games against the Magpies at their place.

"Sturridge has scored in all four of his previous starts at Newcastle," explained Mowbray.

"For the Reds against the team in black and white, he boasts five goals in five appearances."

But that's not how the subtitles translated the commentary, which instead referred to Rafa Benitez's team as "the black and white scum."

The BBC has since apologised for its "unfortunate error."

A spokesperson said: "Our live subtitling service is normally very accurate and makes our content much more accessible, but there are times when unfortunate errors occur.

"On this occasion the error was spotted and corrected immediately."
