Arsene Wenger struggled to hide his glee after watching Mesut Ozil's performance against Crystal Palace.

The Gunners downed Palace 2-1 thanks to an acrobatic Olivier Giroud effort and a Damien Delaney own goal.

But it was Ozil's display that Wenger appeared to enjoy most.

"He had a very good performance," said Wenger. "He was important getting out from the back, getting out of tight areas.

"It is a pleasure to watch the quality of his passing and the intelligence of his passing."

"He was absolutely magnificent.

"What I liked in his game today was he made many runs without the ball behind the defenders, which is a bit new as he likes to come with the ball. Today he mixed up his game better."

The win lifted Arsenal to 11th in the table following their opening day defeat by West Ham, and Giroud admitted only a win was good enough for them on Saturday

"We needed these three points from when we lost to West Ham, we needed to bounce back," Giroud said.

Wenger added: "It was a mental test to see how we would respond. After we got the second goal we fought well. I am pleased.

"This is a difficult place for teams to come and win.

"To get the three points could be a turning point for us."
