Mesut Ozil to Manchester United is a "shoo-in", according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

United boss Jose Mourinho is keen on the Arsenal midfielder who is also a target for Barcelona as he is out of contract in the summer.

Mirror Sport revealed United’s interest in Ozil and he is also free to sign a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona from January 1.

Wright told the BBC: “Mesut Ozil on a free to Manchester United on a free looks a shoo-in. I’m sure Jose would love to do that.

“That would frighten me to death. He is a great talent and having great players around him would lift him up as well.

“I’m sure him and his agent would not push it this far if they were going to sign (for Arsenal)."

Meanwhile, Ozil is a doubt for Arsenal's clash with Huddersfield on Wednesday night.

The German sat out the dramatic win over Burnley through illness and Arsene Wenger admitted the visit of Huddersfield may come too soon.

Arsenal host United on Saturday and Wenger will hope to have Ozil available by then - even if it could serve as an audition of sorts to Mourinho.

"I don’t know, I haven’t even seen him," Wenger replied at the weekend, when asked what was wrong with Ozil.

"The doctor came to see me and said he [Ozil] had to travel back home.

"He was in the hotel with us. He travelled up with us, then travelled back. We brought Maitland-Niles up, who arrived at 1pm because we had only 17 players.

"How bad is he? Will he be available for Wednesday? Certainly he will be short [of fitness] for Wednesday [against Huddersfield]. We will have to see what it is exactly."
