Usually making an early dart from work is a good thing, but it's not if you're a footballer.

Being given "the hook" remains one of the every player's worst nightmares, and it can often be seen as a sign that your manager doesn't have his full trust in you despite naming you in his starting line-up.

And in his press conference ahead of Wednesday's clash against Huddersfield, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was forced to explain just why he has routinely taken off his major summer signing Alexandre Lacazette this season .

"First of all, I would like to say in my job, you sub strikers more than defenders," said Wenger, who took off Lacazette for Danny Welbeck with 10 minutes of Sunday's game against Burnley remaining.

"They have to create, provoke and be incisive.

"I have other options on the bench who are fresh and give us other variations in our attack.

"A lot of teams change their strikers around 60-80 minutes."

And no-one has been taken off more times than Lacazette in the Premier League this season, with three other players - including stars from Liverpool and Manchester United - joining him in the top four.

Roberto Firmino - who was hardly ever replaced last season - and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have both also gone off 10 times, with the Armenian's Manchester United teammates Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford also among the most replaced players.

And as well as Lacazette coming off 10 times, no-one has come on more times than his Gunners teammate Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman joins West Ham's Diafra Sakho in coming off the bench 10 times this season, the only two players in double figures.

Peter Crouch - who has come on nine times for Stoke this season - recently broke the record for the most substitute appearances in Premier League history, when he came off the bench for the 143rd time in his side's 2-2 draw with Brighton.
