Nemanja Matic has leaped to the defence of his Manchester United teammate Marouane Fellaini saying he "doesn't get the credit he deserves."

The Belgian's clumsy style of play has in the past been criticised by Red Devils supporters, who have questioned why Jose Mourinho puts such faith in him.

But Fellaini has consistently worked hard for the Red Devils, and is currently enjoying the form of his life at Old Trafford.

He put United ahead in their 3-0 win over Basel in the Champions League just seconds after coming on for the injured Paul Pogba.

And last time out netted twice in either half of the Red Devils' 4-0 win over Crystal Palace, ensuring his side stay level on points with Man City at the top of the Premier League.

Speaking about the Belgian in an interview with ESPN, Matic claimed he is not surprised but Fellaini's recent form as he gives everything for the club, adding he deserves more praise.

"If you see how he works every day in the training sessions, the games he played didn't surprise me - that he played well, that he scored goals," said Matic.

"He doesn't have the credit that he deserves. I don't know why. But I really enjoy playing with him, and I am sure that we will continue like this.

"It's nice to have him in the team because he can defend, on long balls he is strong and he's always dangerous in attack. I am sure that he will show all his quality this season."
