Olivier Giroud's wonderful scorpion kick has been named on the three-goal shortlist for the prestigious Puskas Award.

Rightly so.

For those of you with very short memories, the Frenchman stunned the world when he acrobatically connected with an Alexis Sanchez cross to inexplicably beat Crystal Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey on New Year's Day.

The Arsenal striker's stunning volley was one of the initial list of 10 wonder strikes nominated for FIFA's prestigious 'goal of the year' award. FIFA used an online vote to whittle the 10 down to a shortlist of three - and Giroud's effort has made the cut.

As we all know, when it comes to online votes that include Arsenal players/goals/moments, you know what it going to happen.

Arsenal fans are going to vote. And vote. And vote. And vote. And vote…

The north London club essentially have an army of online supporters/keyboard warriors ready to be mobilised when required - which is why Giroud was always going to make the shortlist.

And as a quick look at Twitter demonstrates, with the overall winner to be decided by a new online poll, the campaign to ensure Giroud's inevitable victory is already underway…

We can only feel sorry for the other two contenders on the shortlist.
