Olivier Giroud admits he has been frustrated to find himself relegated to Arsenal 's second string side this season.

Boss Arsene Wenger has fielded entirely different teams in the Premier League and lower priority competitions.

And Giroud has been forced to make do with Europa League and Carabao Cup starts following the £52m club record arrival of his fellow French striker Alexandre Lacazette.

All 11 of Giroud's Premier League appearances this term have come off the bench.

And he said: “Yeah [it's frustrating] because we are competitors and we want to play every single game to help the team win.

"We want to be on the pitch, we are all competitors so that is it. At the moment the Premier League team is doing well.

“We have the chance to have two good teams because we have got a good squad and everyone tries to step up and give his best for the team.

“We are enjoying playing together in Europe but obviously we all want to play in the Premier League as well so when the boss wants to put us on the pitch we try to give our best and bring our small cog to the big machine.”

Giroud could be handed his chance against Manchester United on Saturday with Lacazette out with a groin injury.

But there are no guarantees as Wenger has left Lacazette out of big games before this season against Liverpool and Manchester City and Giroud has been overlooked for a starting place.

“We have offensive weapons, you know,” Wenger said when assessing how he might replace Lacazette.

“We have Welbeck, we have Giroud, we have Wilshere who all came on. They are all offensive players. I will see what I do for Saturday but ideally you wanted Lacazette there.”

Giroud pressed his claims with two second-half goals after coming off the bench to replace Lacazette at half-time against Huddersfield last night.

Giroud said: “We will see about Saturday. I don't know. He [Wenger] has different options but I will get ready like all the other players.”

Arsenal's thumping 5-0 win kept them fourth in the table and Giroud said: “The championship is like a marathon, it is not a 100m sprint.

“We need to be consistent in our performance and if we carry on like that we have got a good chance to finish in the top four.”
