Pep Guardiola kept it classy in response to Paul Pogba's comments about Manchester City players after the Blues yet again left it late to secure three Premier League points.

City went eight points clear of Pogba's second-placed United ahead of their mouthwatering dery.

Pogba, of course, won't be in action when the red and blue sides of Manchester face-off after his red card against Arsenal this weekend.

But the Frenchman inflicted a blow with his words following United's win over the Gunners.

Pogba prompted fury when he joked about hoping some Blues got injured to allow other teams to catch them, as the Manchester Evening News reports.

Some supporters claimed karma had struck when Pogba was sent off for a stamp at Arsenal to rule him out of the top-of-the-table clash - and potentially longer if his reaction to the red card is deemed punishable.

After his side beat West Ham 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, Guardiola seemed bemused when Pogba's words were put to him.

He responded by expressing his sadness that the midfielder would not be able to play against his side.

"Hopefully no one will have injuries," he said.

"I would like Paul to [be able to] play against us because I like to face team with the best players as possible to see if we are able to beat them.

"I am sure it is an expression and he doesn't want our players to get injured."

City go into the game eight points clear of their nearest rivals after a late David Silva goal gave them three points against West Ham.
