Philippe Coutinho could face the wrath of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp if he features against England next week.

The Brazilian has missed Liverpool's last three matches with a thigh problem but was called up for international duty.

Brazil's team doctor has revealed Coutinho is unlikely to feature against Japan in Lille on Friday but may be involved at Wembley next Tuesday.

He trained in the gym on Monday and is expected to step up his recovery with some ball work later in the week.

"Coutinho had a muscle injury in the adductor of the left thigh," Rodrigo Lasmar told Globo Esporte.

"He is in the final phase of recovery. We knew that he would not be fully fit, but we chose to make his final recovery with us.

"The possibility of him playing against Japan is remote, but we are working to make sure he's available against England.

"He may not be able to participate [against Japan]. If he can, he could be on the bench and play for a few minutes.

"But it's a small chance. Our focus is to get him back for the second game."

The news is likely to frustrate boss Klopp , who lost Sadio Mane during the last international break.

Klopp was also critical of England boss Gareth Southgate after he selected Jordan Henderson in the dead rubber final World Cup qualifiers.

"They [international managers] all make their own decisions. A lot of players from different teams had injuries. It is a big problem with change of training and a different rhythm," he said.
