Philippe Coutinho has been left out of Liverpool's squad for their Premier League clash with Burnley.

The Brazilian wasn't even on the coach that travelled to Turf Moor for the New Year's Day fixture.

Mohamed Salah also failed to make the journey, but is currently out for a minimum of two weeks after suffering a knee injury.

According to reports, Coutinho is missing due to a thigh injury. The extent of the problem is not yet known.

Coutinho's exclusion from the first-team squad comes just days after Nike 'confirmed' his move to Barcelona.

An advertisement for the Barca shop proclaimed Coutinho was "ready to light up Camp Nou" and called him "the Magician".

The ad has since been taken down, been it is believed Barcelona, who attempted to sign the midfielder in the summer, will step up their interest now that the January transfer window has opened.

Both Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane travelled with the Liverpool squad, with the Senegalese starting up top against Burnley alongside Dominic Solanke.

Firmino takes his place on the bench, but will likely feature at some point, given his current run of form.

Liverpool recently splashed the cash to land £75million centre-back Virgil van Dijk - making him the world's most expensive defender in the process.

The former Southampton man was recently unveiled by the club, where he revealed his delight in signing for the Reds.

He will likely watch his new teammates from the stands this Monday afternoon.
