Another week, another win for Manchester City , as Pep Guardiola's men maintained their eight point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The runaway leaders were pushed close though, as they came from behind to claim a 2-1 win at Huddersfield, while their rivals United laboured to a 1-0 win over Brighton.

Chelsea traveled to Anfield in the weekend's biggest game, where they held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw, while Arsenal took advantage of Spurs' failure to beat West Brom by leapfrogging their north London rivals into the fourth place after their late, late win at Burnely.

At the other end of the table, Crystal Palace claimed a last-gasp victory over Stoke, Swansea picked up a point against Bournemouth and West Ham were held by Leicester on Friday night.

It was also another bleak weekend for Everton, who suffered a 4-1 loss at Southampton as their search for a new manager limps on.

But which players impressed this weekend? Here's our team of the weekend...

GK: Petr Cech - Arsenal

Arsenal were one of the weekend's big winners, as they gatecrashed the top four thanks to Alexis Sanchez's injury time penalty winner at Burnley. But key to this win was the performance of their No1, with Cech coming up with two big first-half saves to put the Gunners on their way.

DEF: Cesar Azpilicueta - Chelsea

The Spaniard was everywhere against Liverpool, coming up with a flurry of blocks, interceptions and interventions to help Antonio Conte's men escape from Anfield with a point. There a few better one-on-one defenders in the Premier League.

DEF: Mamadou Sakho - Crystal Palace

The French defender contributed to a huge win for Palace by making an impact at both ends of the pitch. After keeping a lid on the Stoke attack for the majority game he was in the right place at the right time to score a winner which leaves Roy Hodgson's side just three points away from safety. Remember when football statisticians were furiously pointing us in the direction of the infamous Derby 2007-08 campaign in comparison to the Eagles' poor start? That seems a long time ago.

DEF: Andreas Christensen - Chelsea

We're bagging a brace of Chelsea defenders after the champions claimed a point at Anfield. The 21-year-old Dane is quickly maturing into a key player for Antonio Conte, showing maturity beyond his years and keeping David Luiz on the bench.

After being elbowed in the nose by Andy Carroll and ending up in a bloody heap just 30 seconds into his Premier League debut last time out, the masked Dutch wingback played a blinder at St James' Park, tearing up and down the left and playing a key part in two of Watford's three goals against Newcastle.

This speed will be a weapon that opponents will need to legislate for this season, otherwise they run the risk of being taken apart like the Magpies were.

MID: Will Hughes - Watford

Long-tipped for stardom, the 22-year-old's early showings in a Watford shirt are one of this season's most pleasing narratives. The former England Under-21 midfielder has two goals in two games as Marco Silva has found an effective role for the former Derby man.

After being linked with big-money moves to top-tier clubs as a teenager, it's pleasing to see that Hughes has not had his head turned by the bright lights and is seeing his career develop at a steady pace at a club where he has not just been stockpiled.

MID: Fernandinho - Manchester City

The Brazilian continues to be the unsung hero of this all-conquering Manchester City side.

Yes, they were ran closer than Pep Guardiola would have liked against Huddersfield, but the central midfielder was able to combine his usual Stakhanovite-esque work rate with efficiency on the ball as City awoke from a first-half slumber to claim their 12th win in 13 Premier League games.

MID: Dusan Tadic - Southampton

Got Saints' afternoon up and running with his first-half opener and would go on to provide the assist for their fourth against a hapless Everton side. Combining industry and skill, Tadic can be key in Saints' top half push this season.

FWD: Mohamed Salah - Liverpool

Fast becoming a team of the week staple, Salah's goal against his former side made it 15 for the season. His usual blend of speed, incisiveness and his cool head under pressure were all on display in another top-notch preformance.

FWD: Raheem Sterling - Manchester City

The England man's fine run of form continues, after he won a penalty and scored the winner against Huddersfield. Will this resurgence prove to be Pep's masterpiece in English football? Under the former Barca boss Sterling has netted 12 times this season - already his best return in any campaign. With six months left to go this season, what will Sterling's ceiling be?

FWD: Charlie Austin - Southampton

Have Saints turned a corner with their 4-1 win over Everton this weekend? Or does every club that are failing to hit the back of the net regularly just need to play the Toffees?

Either way, Austin's brace against the managerless, rudderless Toffees was a welcome tonic for Austin and the goal-shy Saints. A post-width away from netting a hat-trick, if Austin can stay fit, then this performance showed that he can establish himself as the main man up front on the south coast.
