Paris Saint-Germain full-back Thomas Meunier's has had a dig at Manchester City and revealed his love for their local rivals United, report the Manchester Evening News.

Meunier, 25, dislodged Serge Aurier as PSG's first-choice right-back last year after he joined the Ligue 1 club from Club Brugge and could start for Belgium at next year's World Cup.

United were incessantly linked with Aurier during the summer but had no intention of signing the Ivory Coast international, who moved to Tottenham on deadline day.

Ahead of the launch of EA Sports' FIFA 18 , Meunier was asked in an SFR Sport interview which team he played as on the video game.

"Manchester," he replied. "The real one, Man United. Because I've always been a fan."

United's current right-back Antonio Valencia signed a new contract earlier in the year until 2019 but turns 33 next year and was rested for the midweek win over Basel.

Deputy right-back Timothy Fosu-Mensah is at Crystal Palace on a season-long loan but could face uncertainty after former coach Frank de Boer was sacked and replaced by Roy Hodgson on Monday.

United scouted French right-back Kevin Malcuit before he joined Lille and considered reinforcing at left-back, where they are monitoring Celtic's Kieran Tierney and Tottenham defender Danny Rose.

Meunier is contracted to PSG until 2020.
