Arsene Wenger has been busy in the transfer market securing the club record signing of Alexandre Lacazette as he looks to challenge for major honours once again next season.

But he could have a major star in the making in teenage sensation Reiss Nelson if pre-season is anything to go by.

The 17-year-old was the star performer during the pre-season tour of Australia and was handed a start for the Emirates Cup clash against Benfica.

He then came off the bench against Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley.

Wenger would love to see another player follow in the footsteps of Jack Wilshere and Alex Iwobi who have made the breakthrough from the Academy into the first-team.

Mirror Football takes a look at Arsenal's rising young star and what the Gunners can expect from the teenage star.

Born in Elephant and Castle back in December 1999, Nelson showed from an early age that he was destined to go right to the very top.

Nelson has always been regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in the club's Academy following his move from Hale End where he earned rave reviews as a youngster.

The talented midfielder always played above his age groups and quickly attracted interest from Arsenal who were keen to snap him up and secured his signature back in May 2008.

After working his way through the different age groups, Reiss signed his first professional contract with the Gunners in December 2016 following his 17th birthday.

Nelson played 35 times for the youth teams last season scoring seven goals which included nine appearances for the Under-21 side. He has also broken into the England Under-17 squad.

The attacking midfielder was a crucial member of the FA Youth and UEFA Youth League sides and his talents clearly caught the eye of Wenger who included him in the squad that travelled to Australia.

Nelson has an array of skills and creative vision which could clearly be seen in Arsenal's opening pre-season game in Sydney.

With uncertainty surrounding the future of Wilshere, Nelson could find himself playing a big role for the Gunners next season if he manages to keep this form going.
