All eyes were on Romelu Lukaku as Manchester United took to the Anfield pitch on Saturday afternoon to battle it out with Liverpool.

The Belgium international, who has been in brilliant form this season, is currently the Premier League's top scorer with seven goals.

He had attempted to become the first player in Premier League history to score eight goals in the first eight games of a season against the Reds this weekend.

But he failed to make any impact on the derby, and despite one great chance to score, spent more time engaged in battles with the Liverpool midfield.

Lukaku's heatmap from the game tells an interesting story as it shows the Belgian spent very little time in the opposition area.

He didn't appear to be in any place for a prolonged period, apart from in the middle of the park, and spent as much time in his own box as Liverpool's.

Thierry Henry attempted to explain why the £75million man was ineffective in the match while providing analysis on the game on Sky Sports.

"I think he was too eager to score that goal that everyone would be talking about against a big team," explained the Arsenal legend.

"This is the first time he has had to do it with a Manchester United shirt on.

"And I think he was too eager in the first half and he wasn't in the right frame of mind to finish that one vs one he had with [Simon] Mignolet and sometimes that does play on your mind.

"But like I said he will have other opportunities to rectify that."

Lukaku had been a doubt to start the game after he suffered an ankle injury in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace last week. He returned for Belgium against Cyprus on Tuesday, scoring the final goal of the game in the 4-0 victory.
