Sam Allardyce admitted securing a goalscorer is his priority - after Everton failed to register a shot on target against Manchester United.

Everton are trying to sign Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun, with Allardyce acknowledging the importance of bringing in a goalscorer this month.

The Toffees have scored just once in their last four Premier League games and Allardyce admitted: "Our attacking powers are limited - that’s why I’ve worked so hard on keeping clean sheets.

"We need to strengthen the front line. We're trying to do the hardest job of all by securing a player in that position.

"We're trying and until that happens, we have to maintain our defensive solidarity.

Allardyce said he was still waiting to learn if Everton have been successful with their £25million bid to sign Tosun.

"We've done all we can," said Allardyce. "We'll know in the next 24 hours if we're successful or not.

"We need a bigger goalscoring threat than we have at the moment.

"I can’t guarantee whoever we get in will score goals straight away, I just hope he does when we do.

"Our deal is in and it's up to them whether they accept our deal or not."
