Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has been cleared to fly back to England after he fainted during the half-time break of Argentina's friendly loss to Nigeria.

The 29-year-old fell ill in the dressing room after earlier scoring to put his side 2-0 up, becoming the Albiceleste's third-highest scorer in the process.

"He fainted and was therefore transferred to carry out routine checks just as a precaution," said Argentina's official Twitter said.

Aguero was later pictured walking out of the stadium and Manchester City have provided an update on his condition, informing supporters that their all-time leading goalscorer has been cleared by doctors to return to Manchester.

Argentina slumped to a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria in the friendly which took place at the Stadion FK in Krasnodar, as they squandered a two-goal lead in the absence of Lionel Messi.

Goals from Ever Banega and Aguero put Jorge Sampaoli's side 2-0 up before Leicester striker Kelechi Iheanacho slotted home a free-kick before the break.

A brace from Arsenal's Alex Iwobi and and a goal from Brian Idowu secured a famous win for the African side.

Aguero has eight goals in eight Premier League appearances for City so far this season, and his condition will be of huge concern for boss Pep Guardiola.

The Blues go to Leicester on Saturday, with the club confirming he will be assessed by their medical team before the trip.
